Metal titanium is chemically stable and is favored in aerospace and vehicle engineering. Nowadays, this new material has become the "new darling" of jewelry designers with its advantages of rich color, light weight and corrosion resistance.

Light and cheap

In today's jewelry design circle, titanium is becoming more popular, mainly because it is much lighter and cheaper than rare precious metals such as gold.

Titanium looks like steel, has a silver-gray luster, has been mistaken for rare metals, and is actually rich in reserves in the earth's crust. It has high strength, low density, high hardness, high melting point, strong corrosion resistance and good plasticity. The same volume of titanium is equivalent to a quarter of gold. In the aerospace industry, titanium can be made into a "space coat" for high-temperature spacecraft.

Milanese jewelry designer Alesia Ansaldi said that the equal weight of titanium is larger than gold, which makes titanium the "ideal metal" for making large earrings.

Jewelry designer Matthias Chelo has been at the forefront of titanium jewelry design in recent years. He said that because of its light weight, titanium has an obvious advantage in making larger jewels.

Designers believe that the jewelry design industry favors titanium metal as a global “new trend” in the use of new materials. This trend can be seen as a response to the continued soaring prices of precious metals. Italian designer Uldanzo said that people's understanding and understanding of jewelry is becoming more diverse, "jewels are no longer tied to expensive elements."

Another reason why designers love titanium is that titanium can be rendered in vivid colors after electrolysis, from dark green to purple, often making people shine. Jewelry in gold, limited color choices, designers are confined in yellow, white and red, and with titanium as jewelry, designers can get "amazing colors." According to Chero, the surface of titanium can be rendered "out of the box", which helps designers break the traditional limits and expand the space for innovation.

Expensive processing

When used in surgical bones, the "artificial bones" made of titanium can be connected to flesh and blood like real bones and will not be rejected by the human body. Due to this "biological" nature, titanium jewelry does not endanger human health and does not cause skin irritation.

“Titanium has pure, clean qualities,” says Uldanzo. “This is why I design a titanium jewel that you can embed in the nose.”

Despite its many advantages, the use of titanium to make jewelry must use special processing equipment, and the production cost is relatively high. A Japanese designer said that compared to processing gold and silver, the machinery used to process titanium is more expensive, less popular, and has higher processing costs. According to designer Kamarata, the cost of making jewelry using titanium is “expensive in the processing, not the raw material itself”.
