In the United States, Europe, and other developed countries and regions, due to the European debt crisis, the economy has been slow to recover, the unemployment rate has remained at a high level, the employment structure has deteriorated, and consumer confidence has declined. These factors limit the demand for textiles and clothing while also limiting the needs of related industries. The textile and apparel industry expects at the beginning of the year that exports will remain at low or negative growth during the first half of this year.
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said that the international market is still sluggish, the gap between domestic and foreign cotton prices continues to expand, and competition is fiercer, which is the main limiting factor for China’s textile exports.
According to US Customs statistics, from January to April, imports of textiles and clothing from China accounted for 36.1% of the United States' imports of similar products from the world, a year-on-year decrease of 4.04 percentage points. According to statistics from Japan Customs, imports of textiles and clothing from China accounted for 73% of Japan’s similar products imported from around the world in January-April, a year-on-year decrease of 1.95 percentage points. During the same period, India, Vietnam, Bangladesh and other countries also increased their share of the US and Japanese markets.
Regarding the situation in the second half of the year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said that the international economic situation is not optimistic and low international demand will continue. Textile companies are still in a difficult situation in the second half of the year. Exports of textiles and clothing continue to grow at a low rate, the overall benefit will drop sharply, and business losses will expand. Many small and medium-sized enterprises will go bankrupt.
