Henan industrial and commercial inspection results underwear product pass rate of 66.3%

The Henan Provincial Administration for Industry and Commerce recently entrusted the Inspection and Quarantine Technology Center of the Henan Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau with the supervision and random inspection of underwear products sold in the circulation areas of Zhengzhou, Xinyang, Nanyang and Luoyang. The results show that the problem of fiber content of underwear products is more prominent.

It is reported that a random sampling was conducted by way of purchase. A total of 80 samples of 62 brands including cotton, modal, synthetic fiber, infants, and children were sampled and tested according to relevant national standards and relevant industry standards. The fiber content, azo, formaldehyde, pH value, rubbing fastness, and perspiration fastness (acid, alkali) were tested. The initial test results showed that 53 sets of qualified products in 80 sets of underwear products, the initial pass rate of 66.3%. The formaldehyde content, azo dyes, and color fastness to color fastness of the samples were all qualified. The unqualified items were mainly fiber content, pH value, and fastness to perspiration.

The unqualified fiber content accounted for 86.7% of the failed inspections. The measured value of the fiber content of some products is inconsistent with the nominal value, which exceeds the allowable range of national standards and there is a case of inferior packaging. For example, Zhengzhou Richu Trading Co., Ltd. sells the “Shengwa” brand “natural color strip shoulder buckle” produced by Tianjin Shengwa Baby Garment Factory. The fiber content is nominally “100% cotton” and the actual measurement is “cotton 77.2”. %, 22.8% of polyester fiber; “Nanyang City, Wolong District, Yangtze River underwear line sales by the Yiwu Bugenuo Knitting Co., Ltd. production of the "Cendi" brand "Body seamless underwear", the fiber content of the nominal "cotton 78 %, Nylon 19%%, Spandex 3%%, measured as "57.1% cotton, 39.0% nylon, 3.9% spandex".

Spot checks also found that there are some products with non-standard fiber labeling, which is easy to mislead consumers. Such as the Zhengzhou City Mart Brothers underwear business line sales by the Shanghai Yucheng Clothing Co., Ltd. (supplied) "Schuldan" brand "Schultan cotton underwear", fiber content labeling "cotton 100% (gray 80% cotton, 20% polyester," actually measured as "84.6% cotton, 15.4% polyester fiber," a product at the same time labeled two fiber content components, inconsistent with the national mandatory standards.

After the results of the initial inspection were issued, no company filed a reinstatement application. The final acceptance rate of the sampling sample was 66.3%.

The most common ratio is a 65-percent cotton and 35-percent polyester blend.

Dyeing is the process of adding color to textile products like fibersyarns, and fabrics. Dyeing is normally done in a special solution containing dyes and particular chemical material. After dyeing, dye molecules have uncut chemical bond with fiber molecules.
