China Consumers Association to check the quality of infant knitted underwear

Is it safe for infants to wear intimate underwear? In order to allow consumers to timely and accurately understand the quality of baby knitted underwear products market and guide consumers to choose suitable, safe and satisfactory products, after 2010, the Chinese Consumer Association once again sells baby knitted underwear to the Beijing market. A comparative test was conducted.

The comparative test sample was an infant knitted underwear for 0-3 years old. It was purchased by the association as an ordinary consumer from 4 large shopping malls in Beijing in May this year for a total of 30 samples. These underwears have a strong representation in the domestic market, and the purchase price ranges from 89 yuan to 599 yuan per set.

The sample test was undertaken by the China Commodity Consortium's Quality Supervision, Inspection and Testing Center for Textile Products (Tianjin). The GB5296.4-1998 "Guidelines for the Use of Consumer Products, Textiles and Apparel" and GB18401-2003 "National Safety Technical Code for Textile Products" were applied. ” and commodity express standards. The test items include national mandatory standard items such as color fastness and formaldehyde content, as well as clothing use performance items such as dimensional change rate and fiber content. In addition, taking into account the actual concerns of consumers, this time also increased the comparison of the hidden dangers of product packaging security and the warnings and price content of goods.

Test results show that the overall quality of the comparative test sample is better than last year. A number of national compulsory standards stipulated items can meet the relevant requirements, but there are problems in the color fastness to saliva, formaldehyde content, pH value, rate of change in size of water washing, fiber content, and instructions for product use.

First, the degree of shrinkage after washing is large, and the effect of washing is used again. Of the 30 samples in this comparative experiment, 4 samples exceeded the range specified by the standard for the rate of change in the size of washed water. For example, the rate of change in the dimensions of the two first-class products, namely the “Doctor Frog Brand Sleeveless Turtleneck Collar” and the “Beymeiyi Brand Knit Full-opening Underwear Collar Set,” were -8.4%. After washing, the degree of shrinkage is greater, and the effect of re-use.

The second is incorrect labeling of fiber content and misleading purchasing. In the 30 samples of the comparative trial, there were 3 samples with fiber content inconsistencies. The nominal “adidas brand baby's summer suit” sample fiber content of the original trousers 100% cotton, the measured value of 85.4% cotton, polyester fiber 14.6%. Nominal "IVY HOUSE brand knitted suit" sample, measured number 100/52 top 100% cotton fiber content, 90/52 top-mounted type is 94.1% cotton, spandex 5.9%. The same color, style, and different specifications of the sample fiber content is inconsistent, causing consumer shopping troubles, but also reflect the problems of corporate management.

Third, excessive pH and formaldehyde can easily stimulate the body of infants and young children. Of the 30 samples in this comparative trial, only the pH value measured in the sample of the “Akaban Siamese clothing” sample was slightly alkaline, which was beyond the scope of the standard. Only the nominal “Kissy Kissy brand space adventure printing set” sample was found to have a formaldehyde content of 81 mg/kg for shirts and 73 mg/kg for pants. In addition, there are 2 samples of the instructions for use are not standardized.

The overall strength of the technical indicators such as disengagement strength, belts, and sewing strength of buttons was good, but the problem of pilling was obvious. There were 2 samples of pilling that seriously affected the appearance of the clothing. All 30 samples had no packaging safety hazards, and 4 samples were still marked with safety warnings on the packaging of goods, stating “Note: For the safety of your baby, please remove the straight pins on the clothes before wearing them”. Warning: This tape is not a toy. To prevent possible suffocation, please do not allow children to play with this tape. It shows that care for infants and toddlers should be promoted.

The results of this comparative trial show that the quality of knitted underwear for infants and young children currently sold in the Beijing market is relatively good, and the overall quality of the knitted underwear is higher than that of the comparative test sample in 2010. Consumers can feel comfortable buying it.
