Textile and Apparel Export Increases 15.5% in the Last October

According to customs data, Zhongshan City exported $2.09 billion worth of textiles and garments from January to October this year, marking a 15.5% increase compared to the same period last year. This growth reflects a steady upward trend in the sector, with only a minor decline recorded in March. Notably, June saw a significant rise in exports, reaching $257 million—the highest point of the year so far—but this was followed by four consecutive months of decline. In October, the city exported $198 million worth of textiles and apparel, representing a year-on-year increase of 21.6% compared to October 2023, though it still showed a 12.6% drop compared to September. A key driver of this growth has been general trade, which accounted for nearly half of the total export value. In fact, the growth in general trade outpaced that of processing trade. From January to October, general trade exports reached $1.03 billion, rising by 26.7% year-on-year and making up 49.3% of total textile and garment exports. Meanwhile, processing trade exports totaled $1.06 billion, an increase of 6.4%, contributing 50.7% to the overall export volume. This shift highlights a growing reliance on domestic production and direct market access, suggesting that Zhongshan’s textile industry is adapting well to evolving global demand patterns. With continued investment and strategic trade policies, the sector appears well-positioned for sustained growth in the coming months.
