Yiwu's knitting industry is undergoing significant transformation, driven by technological upgrades and a growing emphasis on modern equipment. As a result, more companies are focusing on producing high-quality products to capture both domestic and international markets. These developments have directly boosted the sales of new socks and advanced knitting machinery in Yiwu. At the Tenth China (Yiwu) International Socks, Knitting and Dyeing Machinery Exhibition, several exhibitors shared with reporters that, according to preliminary data, approximately 40% of seamless underwear equipment currently sold in the domestic market is purchased by Yiwu-based enterprises.
Hong Kong Zhongda Industrial Co., Ltd., an agent for over 20 renowned European textile machinery brands, showcased seven different brand machines at the exhibition. The company's senior business manager, Rong Yaoji, explained that the firm has 20 offices nationwide, with one located in Yiwu, which also serves as the largest maintenance center in mainland China.
In addition to updated warp knitting machines and seamless underwear equipment, Hong Kong Zhongda also presented seamless sweater machinery. According to Rong Yaoji, around 300 to 400 units of seamless underwear machines are sold each month in Yiwu, making up about 40% of the company’s total sales. However, with the ongoing product upgrades in the seamless knitting industry, it is expected that demand for seamless sweater equipment will soon trigger a new wave of sales trends.
Notably, the Italian Santoni brand's agent at the exhibition received an impressive 3,000 orders during the event.
AoLuoLa Machinery Co., Ltd., the only hosiery equipment manufacturer based in Yiwu, brought approximately 10 sets of upgraded and newly developed equipment to the exhibition. Liu Weiming, the company’s general manager, stated that Yiwu’s knitting enterprises are upgrading at an accelerated pace, and the influx of imported equipment has placed considerable pressure on domestic manufacturers. “If equipment manufacturers don’t move faster, they may lose the high-end market,†he warned.
Despite the challenges, Liu Weiming expressed confidence in the company’s latest double-needle turret machine, which was previously produced exclusively by Italian and Japanese firms. This model offers strong market competitiveness and has attracted buyers from Yiwu as well as from countries such as India, Lithuania, and Ukraine.
The exhibition also drew attention from Weng Rongjin, chairman of Zhejiang Langsha Holding Co., Ltd. He remarked that Yiwu’s hosiery industry has reached a high level of development. From the perspective of the equipment on display, energy-saving and automated solutions were more prominent, which he believes greatly benefits the sock industry. He added that Yiwu enterprises can now access the world’s most advanced and top-tier equipment through these exhibitions, significantly improving their production capabilities.
According to statistics, Yiwu currently operates 40,000 sets of sock machines, with two-thirds sourced from Italy, South Korea, and other foreign countries, while the remaining third comes from domestic manufacturers. The competitive edge of Yiwu’s socks in both domestic and international markets largely stems from the use of advanced equipment, which continues to drive the industry forward.
