The meaning and performance of acrylic fabric

Polyacrylonitrile fiber is a fiber spun from a polymer having acrylonitrile as a main chain structural unit. Acrylic is a domestic trade name of polyacrylonitrile fiber, known as Orlon by DuPont, and transliterated as Orlon. Acrylic fiber is light, soft to the touch, warm, and its properties are similar to that of wool. It is used as a substitute for wool and it is also called “synthetic wool”.

The properties of acrylic fabrics are: acrylic fabrics have the advantages of good elasticity, good heat preservation, curl, fluffy and soft, bright colors, high strength, good light and heat resistance, relatively stable chemical properties, and light weight. In addition, it is not as mild as other synthetic fiber fabrics, it is not easy to rot and is not afraid of insects.

The disadvantages of acrylic fabrics are: Acrylic wear resistance is poor, not only inferior to synthetic fibers, and even less than wool. Because acrylic fibers are hydrophobic fibers, they have low moisture absorption and are easily stained. At a standard condition of 20°C and a relative humidity of 65%, only a moisture regain of 1.2% to 2.0% was observed. Therefore, wearing an acrylic garment has a feeling of boringness, and due to its low moisture absorption and poor dyeability.
