The Difference Between Candle Warmer & Candle Lighting

Candle warmers are an excellent alternative to burning a candle. The differences are simply a matter of personal choice. For instance, burning a candle provides a certain amount of ambiance that a candle warmer cannot provide, but you cannot leave a burning candle alone while you're out. A candle warmer is a small appliance that should be turned off when leaving the area for an extended period of time, but it's not fire. So the risks are minimal in comparison to a burning flame should it be left on.

Candles are "heat activated" and fire will naturally be hotter than a warming plate. Burning a candle provides a more aromatic fragrance because of the fire, but there are certain drawbacks to both. Burning a candle will have some smoke and soot that the wick creates while burning whereas a candle warmer does not. Wax will slowly disappear when a candle burns and wax will never disappear when using a candle warmer. It is a misconception that just because there is wax in the jar that the candle should hold its fragrance. The fragrance in the jar will disappear regardless of how the candle is used. Since candle warmers have a tendency to be left on, the candle may not last as long as expected. However, if not used for several hours at a time, your candle will have more longevity. Candle warmers are also an excellent choice for the rooms of children or elderly without the concern of an open flame.

Tips to consider when making choices between the two:

Candle warmers:
If one candle and one warmer do not provide the desired aroma, then add additional candles and warmers until the desired aroma is achieved. The candle liquefies from the bottom up, so be sure to keep the warmer in a safe place to prevent spillage.

Burning:
Keep wicks trimmed before lighting, "removing the clover." This will prevent additional soot and smoke.

CAUTION: Never use a candle warmer and burn your candle at the same time. This is EXTREMELY dangerous!
