Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) Update

The International Working Group on Global Organic Textiles (GOTS IWG) released the Working Group 3.0 organic fiber processing standard on March 2nd.

The revised content includes the prohibition of garment processing methods harmful to the health of workers (such as the sandblasting of denim garments) and the requirement that the polyester in the global organic textile standards certification product in 2014 be derived from post-consumer recycled materials, allowing polypropylene to be used as an “other” The use of fiber materials, accessories will have more material to choose from. In addition, the ban on the reprocessing of all chemical fiber fabrics has been lifted; therefore, most fabric treatments are allowed now, but they must meet stringent general global organic textile toxicity standards.

Version 3.0 also sets goals for reducing the use of water and energy, testing whether social ethics management plans are in place and ensuring that the minimum social standards are met. All companies that wish to become global standards for organic textiles must comply with the 3.0 version as of March 1, 2012.
